Scotland’s history comes alive by the sea, from the kings wandering the Ayrshire coast to the rich fishing heritage of Aberdeenshire.

That’s reason why you must visit Peterhead.

Nestled along the award-winning Lido beach and marina.

Peterhead Lido Caravan Park is the perfect base for touring caravans, motorhomes and campers.

History

Peterhead has had a rich coastal history. The town, and the quaint fishing villages around it, have all kept their local charm and character from the 13th century. You can still visit a 16th century salmon fish house and watch the traditional smoking of salmon and trout. It was once a hub for Whaling and herring fishing and now it has busy fish markets that would rival all in Europe. The extensive harbours were built in the 19th century about the herring industry boom. Peterhead enjoyed prosperity beyond the herring boom through becoming a leader in white-fish and the North Sea oil and gas industry.

Peterhead Lido, although a stunning sandy beach, is known locally as “Blue Toon”. The reasons behind this become apparent when there is a strong North-easterly freeze fighting you.

Natural Space

Because of the working harbour and caravan park, Peterhead Lido is a lively fascinating beach with a lot going on in the area. Looking out to see you can see the breakwaters ahead, and a harbour with boats from all ages. On land, there is a caravan park situated next to the beach and the Scottish Maritime museum.

Setting

The beach is situated in Peterhead bay which gives it some shelter. There are many beaches along this coastline worth visiting. Cruden Bay lies 5 miles (8km) to the south, whilst Ugie beach and Golf Course is 2mile (3km) further North.

Getting There

The Lido is part of Peterhead Bay and is accessed from the car park sign posted from the A982. There is a walk down a steep road to the beach. Alternatively, access can be gained by driving to the marina and parking adjacent to the bay.  Peterhead Lido beach is within a mile of the Formatine and Buchan Way Cycle Route. Stagecoach Bluebird run bus service 60 from Aberdeen to Peterhead.
