Scotland’s Oldest Salmon Fish House

History

The Ugie Salmon Smoke Fish House was built in 1585 at the mouth of the River Ugie at Peterhead in the North East Scotland. It was originally built for George Keith, the Fifth Earl Marischal for curing and preserving game and fish. It is the only building in Peterhead surviving more than four centuries.

The Ugie Salmon Fish House is not a museum it is operated daily as a salmon and white fish smoking production unit. However the public are welcome to see this ancient building in its original setting and are given an opportunity to buy our products direct from The Fish House shop.
