The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind for across Scotland this Wednesday.

Update: The Met Office has put in place the yellow warning from 00:00 to 11:00 on Wednesday, October 5.

A small chance of disruption from strong winds on Wednesday.

What to expect

  • There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris
  • There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
  • There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected
  • There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties

Peterhead Weather in Storm Arwen means major disruption to services in the north and east of Scotland.

Storm Arwen will bring a spell of very strong winds to parts of northeast Scotland Friday 15:00 – Saturday 02:00

High winds associated with Storm Arwen bring damage and travel disruption.

  • Damage to buildings and homes, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down
  • Roads, bridges and railway lines closed, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights
  • Power cuts affecting other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and homes

Peterhead Weather: Around the Peterhead and area, there’s debris flying everywhere. Tiles, drain pipes, sheds and even roofs are coming off.

From Stagecoach: Due to continuing adverse weather conditions, the Buchan services have been cancelled, this is the X60, X63, 61, X67 and X68, also the 66 and Fraserburgh town service. The Peterhead town service will continue as an hourly service.

Yellow warning Snow and Ice

Yellow warning Snow & ice for Aberdeenshire and part of Scotland.

Ice is likely to form on untreated surfaces during Monday night and Tuesday, especially where showers move well inland.

Some of the showers will be wintry and could produce 2 to 5 cm lying snow above 250 metres, mostly over the Pennines and North York Moors where up to 10 cm is possible.

Elsewhere, most places will see little or no snow, but a slight covering of a centimetre or so is possible in a few places.

Heavy snow effecting roads such as the #A93, #A90, #A96.
