Karen Adam MSP for Banffshire and Buchan Coast, is proud to announce that after an evidence session with the Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee at the Scottish Parliament she has been accorded recognition for a new Cross Party Group titled ‘Fisheries and Coastal Communities’.

This new Cross-Party Group titled ‘Fisheries and Coastal Communities’ which Ms Adam will convene will provide a platform to address the pressing challenges and opportunities faced by Scotland’s coastal communities, including fisheries, renewable energy and the spatial squeeze, climate objectives and the delicate balance with tourism. It aims to bring together a diverse range of stakeholders, from industry professionals to individuals with lived experience in these areas. Most importantly, it offers a unique opportunity for these voices to be heard directly by parliamentary representatives.

“Scotland’s coastal communities are at the forefront of many of our nation’s most pressing challenges. It was clear after meeting with various industries with coastal interests within my remit as an MSP of a coastal constituency and member of the rural affairs committee, that there was a need to facilitate cross industry collaboration alongside parliamentarians’. It’s crucial that we come together, cutting across party lines, to ensure that we craft action points that are holistic, inclusive, and responsive to the rapidly changing dynamics of our coastlines.”

This cross-party group seeks to bridge the gap between policymakers and the real-world experiences of those living and working in our coastal regions. Its intention is to foster dialogue, promote understanding, and drive actionable solutions to the myriad of issues facing our shores.

This is a real step forward for our coastal communities across Scotland, offering a renewed hope for collaboration, understanding, and actionable objectives.

“I urge all stakeholders, from industry professionals to local residents with valuable insights, to engage with this Cross Party Group. Together, we can craft a brighter, sustainable, and inclusive future for our coastal communities,” said Karen Adam.
