New Standard petrol is changing to E10
Standard petrol is changing to E10 in UK in September 2021
The UK is switching to E10 Petrol. Find out how this affects you and check your car’s compatibility
What is E10 fuel and how will it affect you?
In September 2021, the standard petrol/unleaded in the UK will become E10, in line with government mandate. E10 petrol contains up to 10% renewable ethanol, compared to 5% currently, which is added to help reduce CO2 emissions, according to the Department for Transport.
E10 petrol contains up to 10% renewable ethanol, which will help to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with petrol vehicles and tackle climate change. Petrol in the UK currently contains up to 5% renewable ethanol (known as E5).
E10 petrol is already widely used around the world, including across Europe, the US and Australia. It has also been the reference fuel against which new cars are tested for emissions and performance since 2016.

Will the new E10 cost more?
At present it’s not clear how the increase in ethanol will impact the price of unleaded 95 octane fuel.
