Fake Lottery Letters Scam
Residents are urged to be vigilant Fake Lottery Letters SCAM Sent To Aberdeenshire Resident
Residents are urged to be vigilant after an elderly local resident received a scam letter promising prize money of £820,000.
We were contacted after the local resident received apparent notification of having won £820,000 from a so-called International FIFA World Cup Online Lottery.
It asked him to make contact to begin the ‘claims process’.
Fortunately, the letter was spotted by the resident’s son who passed it to us.
The letter states that the recipient has won £820,000 by playing the International FIFA World Cup Online Lottery Program.
It claims the scheme was set up to change the ‘lives of the millions of people’ – in reality it is actually a scam designed to steal victims’ cash.
Our research showed that showed the companies pretending to hold these promised lottery winnings were non-existent.
In the leter, the scammers also ask that the information not be disclosed:
“Please to help us proceed with your claims, this information must be kept away from public to avoid unwarranted abuse of the program or fraudulent acts from criminal minded and unauthorized person(s).“
If you, or someone you know, has received a letter (Lottery Letters SCAM) and is now in live contact with someone then you should call Scotland police on 101.
If you have received a letter, but not replied, then please report this to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040 or by visiting www.actionfraud.police.uk.
