Planning conditions approved for Netherton Hub

We would like to share an update on the Netherton Hub project.

Aberdeenshire Council has confirmed that the Matters Specified for further approval in Condition 2(a) of the Netherton Hub planning permission have been approved. The Council has also confirmed that the pre commencement conditional requirements set out in the planning permission have been discharged.

This means that SSEN Transmission can now move into the next stage of the project, within the scope of the Phase 1 approval. This stage will include the main civil engineering works across the site, such as earthworks and construction of the approved platforms. Further approvals will be sought later for the detailed electrical equipment, and this will be done in stages.

The Netherton Hub is an important part of our Pathway to 2030 programme. It is designed to:

  • support the connection and transmission of renewable energy
  • strengthen the electricity network and improve security of supply in the region
  • help Scotland work towards net zero targets

We would like to thank the local community and stakeholders who have taken the time to engage with the project so far. Your feedback and involvement continue to help shape how the project is delivered.

We will keep the community informed as work progresses and will share further updates as the project moves through its next stages.
