Pride of Buchan Award for Peterhead Round Table in recognition of unwavering commitment to helping others

Community pride was on display at the Buchan Area Committee meeting earlier this week, when councillors honoured a group of dedicated volunteers.

Peterhead Round Table was presented with a Pride of Buchan Award in recognition of its unwavering commitment to supporting individuals, families and community groups throughout the area.

Entirely volunteer‑led, Peterhead Round Table has long been a symbol of generosity and community spirit, ensuring that no-one feels forgotten.

Its much‑loved Santa Collection recently raised £17,000, spreading festive cheer, comfort and magic to families across Buchan. The group also made a £6,000 donation to the local Renal Unit, offering vital support for patients and staff during a particularly challenging time.

However councillors heard that their contributions don’t end there. Throughout the year, the group continues to uplift the community by supporting local organisations, assisting the food bank and stepping in whenever help is needed. Their work is often done quietly, without expectation of recognition, making this award all the more meaningful.

One of Peterhead Round Table’s most powerful achievements came during the festive period, when volunteers delivered more than 250 Christmas hamper bags in a single day. These hampers reached care homes, sheltered housing and supported living facilities in Peterhead, Boddam, Crimond, Cruden Bay, Longside, Mintlaw and Stuartfield.

The group also played a vital role in ensuring every remaining donated item from the Buchan Giving Tree found its way to someone in need – another testament to their commitment to helping others.

Reflecting on the award, Buchan Area Committee chair, Cllr Dianne Beagrie, said: “We were delighted to present the Peterhead Round Table members with a Pride of Buchan Award and thank them for their service to our communities. Their kindness, generosity and unwavering commitment to helping others continues to change lives and strengthen the heart of our communities. Their recognition as a Pride of Buchan Award recipient is thoroughly deserved – and a reminder of the incredible things which can happen when volunteers come together in service of others. We extend our warmest congratulations to Peterhead Round Table for their remarkable achievements and for the lasting difference they make in our communities every day.”

The Pride of Buchan Awards exist to recognise outstanding contributions from individuals, groups, and organisations who go above and beyond to enrich local life. This latest award is a shining example of the exceptional efforts being made in Peterhead and throughout Buchan to support and uplift others.
