Swan Peterhead on Ugie River near where flows into the North Sea
The swans’ closest relatives include the geese and ducks. There are six living species of swan:
- Mute swan
- Black swan
- Black-necked swan
- Whooper swan
- Trumpeter swan
- Tundra swan
Swans usually mate for life, although “divorce” sometimes occurs, particularly following nesting failure, and if a mate dies, the remaining swan will take up with another.
The River Ugie is a river in North East Scotland; it flows into the North Sea on the east coast at Peterhead, north of Cruden Bay. There is considerable evidence of prehistoric settlement within the Ugie drainage basin, especially in the South Ugie Water catchment basin.
