Peterhead Relay For Life 2025 is a family festival celebrating the power of community fundraising in the fight to beat cancer.
Candle of Hope ceremony 11pm
Relay For Life is a community festival celebrating the power of fundraising in the fight to beat cancer. Teams fundraise for life-saving cancer research, then unite at a weekend-long festival to honour everyone who has been affected by cancer.
The festival is focused around a 24-hour relay where team members take it in turns to walk around a track to show that together we will beat cancer. There will be music and activities throughout the 24-hour event, and a Candle of Hope ceremony to honour every life touched by cancer.
Dedicating candles to someone no longer with us, a friend or family member living with cancer, a loved one who has survived, or hope for the future – a world where all cancers are cured.
Entry is free, simply join your local Relay by starting a team, joining a team or by taking part as a survivor.

What can I expect on the day?
Each Relay is organised by a dedicated local volunteer committee, driven by their passion to make a difference. Teams, cancer survivors and volunteers come together to show that together we are beating cancer.
During a Relay For Life event, you’ll experience special moments that bring everyone together:
- We honour Survivors of cancer, our special guests, as they begin the walk with their inspiring Lap of Honour.
- Teams take turns to walk for the duration of the event, showing the power of community spirit to help beat cancer.
- We enjoy a variety of games and music from local performers – there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.
- We hear about Cancer Research UK’s scientific breakthroughs.
- The Candle of Hope ceremony gives us a moment to reflect and honour everyone affected by cancer.
- The closing ceremony celebrates our progress and inspires us all to continue our efforts to beat cancer.

How your money makes a difference
Each year, Relay For Life achieves something truly remarkable – raising over £1 million for life-saving cancer research. Every penny raised makes a difference.
£4 buys a kilo of dry ice, which keeps delicate biological samples at the right temperature while our scientists perform their experiments.
£50 buys a microscope lens, meaning our scientists can focus on the small details that could help us beat cancer.
Cancer Research UK runs an invaluable resource called Cancer Chat – an online, moderated discussion forum available 24/7. This platform provides a safe space for anyone seeking to discuss various aspects of the disease. Running this vital service for our 115,000 members costs around £400 each day.
